“We felt unsafe every moment, knowing they could kill me and my family at any time because I worked with Americans for years.”
The Osmani family finally arrived in the United States on March 11, 2025. They were among the many families stranded in Albania when an executive order abruptly canceled their flights to the U.S., leaving them in limbo. For Mr. Osmani, returning to Afghanistan was never an option. His years of service alongside the United States had put a target on his back.
No One Left Behind stepped up to bring the Osmanis and other allies to safety. On February 19, an NOLB team traveled to Albania, meeting with each of the hundreds of families we evacuated in 2025 to secure their flights. An NOLB team personally assisted the Osmanis with their travel arrangements. Nearly a month later, she was at the Sacramento airport, picking them up and taking them to their new home that she was able to secure for them. Now, as they begin their new chapter in the United States, Mr. Osmani is hopeful for his children’s future.
“I have seven children, so that’s a reason for me to come to America, so my children can study and have a future. With their education and work they can help themselves and their family serve in an American society.”

Their belongings are few, and they have little-to-no familiarity in navigating life in their new home. Now it’s time to get a Social Security number, find housing, open a bank account, secure a job, locate a school, and the overwhelming list goes on and on and on. They’re safe. And they’ve come so far. But the road ahead is daunting. And they realize they’ve never felt so alone.
No One Left Behind has always been relentless in our promise-keeping and our mission isn’t over. Without funding to expand our R&P services, hundreds of newly-arrived allies will face the above reality.
